The Heart Behind Little Sprouts

Our philosophy here at Little Sprouts Learning Center is to care for the child's body, mind, and heart.

We are aware that you face a big decision as you select the perfect fit for your child. We truly appreciate that you are considering our learning center to enrich your child’s life for today and the future. If, at any time, you have a suggestion, comment or concern, please contact us or stop by the office to discuss it. We love suggestions, as we are always seeking new ideas to remain the best learning center in town!

We challenge their minds with hands-on, real and relevant experiences. Little Sprouts uses a project-based curriculum because we believe children learn by doing.

We teach the children to take care of their bodies by eating healthy organic foods (free of hormones, pesticide, and chemicals), exercising and caring for the earth. Our meals are designed and served with the children’s nutritional needs in mind at all times. We serve organic food with no refined sugar. Little Sprouts partners with our local health food grocery stores in purchasing the food for our school. This is all done in the best interest of your child. 

We challenge their minds with hand’s on, real and relevant experiences through project based curriculum. It’s the role of our teachers to uncover learning opportunities with the children while ensuring reaching developmental milestones and school readiness. The projects (or focus) of each room is determined through observations done by the teachers. Instead of a teacher-focused curriculum, this approach builds off of the children’s interest and desire to learn. Younger classrooms will observe current developmental milestones of students and build their focus from there, while our older preschool classrooms will use charts to demonstrate full knowledge and understanding of the project.

Here are some of the guidelines and benefits you can expect from any of our centers:

Smoking is not allowed on the premises at any time.
We ensure that our cleaning company uses non-toxic cleaning products.
We use cold water for drinking, cooking, and making baby formula.
We use non-toxic art supplies and supplement for natural or organic wherever possible.
We use PVA-free and Phalate-free toys.
We never heat children’s food in a microwave.
We use BPA-free bottles and sippy cups.
We do not use any mercury containing thermometers.
We serve 100% organic meals and snacks.
We wash all of our fruits and vegetables thoroughly.
We encourage open-ended learning through natural exploration with eco-friendly objects whenever possible.
We encourage hands on relationships and learning experiences with our animals.

We hire only those who are truly passionate about early childhood education!

Ms. Lisa

Lisa Newman’s life has been dedicated to the love, nurturing, and development of children. Growing up in a broken home gave her a strong desire to help children from all walks of life. She believes children are life’s greatest blessing to those who choose to parent! Ms. Lisa started teaching Sunday School at age 19. Since then, she has spent 6 years as a home-licensed childcare provider, has fostered 13 children over the years, and has been blessed to parent 6 children: one biological child (Kayli), two step-children (Stephan and Emma), and three adopted children (Shaina, and Jaiden and Deven). She believes it is the grace of God that has brought her family this far and she knows that he will continue to walk with them. She is committed to this life of helping children.

Ms. Sarah

Ms. Sarah comes from a family of teachers which gave her the opportunity to volunteer during her early years in high school/college and sparked her passion for early education. Over the next few years she realized there was a huge need for quality care and teachers. In 2006, she had the opportunity to leave South Dakota and move to Colorado with family and make it home. She was drawn to colorful Colorado and the new adventures it would bring to further her education, career and allow her to enjoy the outdoors, hiking, and colds nights. She has been a part of the Little Sprouts family since early 2014. She enjoys the incredible staff, working to provide quality education, bringing nature back into the classrooms and making a difference in the lives of our families. Ms. Sarah’s favorite colors are purple and orange, she enjoys spicy Mexican food, and spending time with her husband Camron and puppy Pepper.

Ms. Christy

Ms. Christy comes from a proud military family and continued that legacy through her own service in the United States Air Force. During her time in the Air Force, she met her husband of 35 years, Bill, and together they have built a family that includes two children and four grandchildren. After completing her military service, Christy transitioned into the field of Early Childhood Education so she could remain close to her children. What began as a practical decision quickly became her passion. She discovered her calling in nurturing young learners and supporting families, and she has remained dedicated to the field for the past 27 years. For the last nine years, Christy has been a valued member of the Little Sprouts community, where she brings her experience, compassion, and unwavering commitment to creating positive early learning experiences. Her work reflects her belief in the importance of strong foundations, meaningful relationships, and lifelong learning.

Ms. Sabrina

Ms. Sabrina grew up surrounded by a large, loving family from the Philippines and discovered early on how much joy she found in caring for younger children. She pursued a Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education with a Teaching Licensure emphasis, along with a minor in Art and Design. She has spent over five years with Little Sprouts, including a brief time away to teach kindergarten - but always felt a love for the little ones! Outside of work, Ms. Sabrina enjoys hiking, reading, and creating art. She’s passionate about sharing her love for nature and animals with the children and believes in the power of curiosity and creativity to spark lifelong learning.

Hands-On Learning for Growing Minds

Our older preschool classrooms use K>W>L charts to demonstrate full knowledge and understanding of the project.

Our classrooms and eco-friendly toys are designed to encourage natural learning. For example, using wooden blocks or toys instead of plastic, or painting with organic materials instead of toxic paints. We encourage our children to color on leaves or other organic objects, as well as paper.

And animals! We have real, live furry friends for our students to love and learn from. What better way to teach children about nature and kindness?

Our lesson times are designed so that our children are able to see, feel and smell. Science may include comparing the sizes and shapes of various vegetation seeds. Math for the day may be counting and handling acorns. Circle time could be singing a song while using wooden percussion instruments like a Clave, Rain Sticks or Drums. We strive to foster a warm and inviting environment where our children are able to learn about the world around them through safe and natural experiences.

We serve 100% organic meals that are prepared on-site every day!

Our menus are done quarterly. They are tailored and customized based on the season and the produce available. All of our parents are welcome to stop by and check out our menu and theme for the week. Whole grains are served at every meal. We pride ourselves on accommodating food allergies and providing substitutions.

Organic foods have lower levels of pesticides and drug-resistant bacteria than conventionally grown food. This is important because young children are more vulnerable to toxic chemicals than adults. It is equally important that children get at least five servings of vegetables and fruit daily.

If you are on a tight budget, there are some foods that are conventionally grown that have relatively low pesticide rates. These include: asparagus, avocados, cabbage, cantaloupe, sweet corn, eggplant, grapefruit, kiwi, mangoes, mushrooms, onions, papayas, pineapples, frozen sweet peas and sweet potatoes.

If at all possible, purchase the following produce in their organic form due to the relatively high pesticide rates of these foods: Apples, celery, cherry tomatoes, cucumbers, grapes, hot peppers, imported nectarines, peaches, potatoes, spinach, strawberries, sweet bell peppers, kale, collard greens and summer squash.
